Latz feels strongly

Twas a minor curiosity, and it is answered by… Ron Latz feeling strongly. As he would.

https://minnesotareformer.com/2023/11/30/13-dfl-senators-criticize-sen-latz-for-saying-palestinian-children-dream-of-killing-jews/

I went to school with Hopkins state rep from 7th grade on in the Pony school district, I knew her very very well. She wished me happy BD the other day on the FB matter of fact. Bright gal, of northern European background, like a lot of us here are. She married either a Lebanese or a Palestinian guy, has a long successful marriage with real bright kids. And she’s the state rep from Hopkins and I’d say woke as well as liberal.

This Israel stuff came down 6 weeks ago, her public pronouncements were fairly pro-Israel. I was like, hmm, pretty strident far as it goes. Neutral language but no real acknowledgement for the Gazans. And I was like, I would think her marriage might make it the other way, but what do I know.

I forgot, she came off the Latz staff tree.

So she ain’t a letter signer, even with the Arabian name.

Yeah super suspicious if you are obtuse to easy context

I don’t even like Tina Smith’s substance btw. Not my cup of tea.

https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/2023/11/30/this-sneaky-senators-insider-trade-isnt-the-most-corrupt-part-of-this-story-n4924348

Here’s a thing though. Ya want to think this is some insider info driven thing? You want to think that’s reality? Tina Smith doesn’t qualitatively appear to be motivated by money, never really has. Her thing is abortion, yo. So you think she’s taking stock tips to her husband? Her husband doesnt need Tina’s stock tips. Presume that he’s got 8 figures of family money to manage that’s not "Tina’s" per se. For "Tina’s" $, presume yeah if she wants a tip he might say, hey, "TCMD", because it’s got a PE of 13 and looks solid as a small cap.

So, this is conservative blog chum, making its way around the web, prime example.

I’d like to understand the claim this company is "funded by federal govt moolah". Oh, ya mean the fed govt might buy medical products from it? Pffttt.

Yeah, Arch is the one with the inside skinny on whatever. Which isn’t to say that’s nefarious.

Don Samuels is right

There was a summer 3-4 years ago in the comment threads at the preeminent misanthrope conservative blog in town where I made the point, that much of the skating Ilhan Omar did on being a mediocre at best public servant and – plus double plus HAVING MARRIED HER BROTHER – was enabled by her being a pretty woman.

OMG the flip outs there, guys trying to claim she’s an uggo. Effing den of rill racists, btw.

Sorry man, no. Now that’s motivated delusion, looking at Ilhan Omar and saying she’s ugly. Based: she’s a good looking woman, has the good face, nice smile, actually always looks quite stylish.

So, I’m right, but what I learned: it’s a very very 3rd level point to make anyway. I don’t rule it out that you make that point in a campaign, but you better be tight with your language.

Enter Don Samuels. I knew what his point was immediately, there was enough there to know what the actual evaluation was, which was what mine was. But, not tight enough for public political discourse.

So, yes, there are a few people out there that get his point BUT disagree with him.

Here’s the thing that makes it true, and the people that do actually get it (Derusha and others) wrong.

Omar is meaningfully, civically combative right. She’s a firebrand.

That person as a Somali or Middle Eastern man in the United States does not get elected to Congress, alright. There’s a reason the squad is all women, yo.

That person as a Somali or Middle Eastern man can get elected to the Mn state house, as Omar did… but I don’t think that guy has the machine behind him to “almost” (Phyllis did still want the job) make it a fait accompli, as it was for Omar.

That person as a Somali or Middle Eastern man probably doesn’t get hand selected by Keith Ellison to be Keith Ellison’s successor because Keith Ellison knows….

That person as a Somali or Middle Eastern man probably doesn’t get embraced by the Jewish wing of the local DFL to get their crudeness with Israel worked out.

Yo, thats a stock screen

And a buy signal. IE. Seeing Tina Smith made a meaningful stock investment isn’t a tell for insider trading, cranks. That’s not yer takeaway, at least here. The broader trope about congressional self dealing re insider info on stocks is probably intensely true for the many other congress critters observed doing it.

But Tina. Her old man’s a pro stock picker. TY, PM for articulating the details of that. Thing is, these are not frivolous people in their personal lives. And I’ll take a wild ass guess, they have a net worth of minimally $10m, and maybe actually quite a bit higher than that into the 8 figures.

They aint here trying to make $100k off $250k on a dime move of a micro cap. It’s that, they had $250k to allocate, and were being serious about it.

Sooooooo…. I know what medical alley is in Mn. You’re telling me in more detail that’s what Arch does… I feel like Arch is making an evaluation of a company in Mn’s medical alley. Which is a growth engine where a lot of corprate successes have come from, but not everything is a sure thing.

I, a man with $3k uninvested. Y not.

I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK

Hey I turned 55 last Saturday. So… “some math”.. my folks moved us from St. Paul to the SC valley 45 years ago. For 45 years I’ve been attuned to the lumber history of Stillwater and the SC valley and have at the same time developed quasi academic skills at history overall while not once feeling a personal connection to the important historical story of the lumber trade in these parts.

Well, I come to find those sawmills in Bayport were pulling a migrant chain from my ancestral villages in the 1870s and 80s. My peeps were the muscle, they were the sawmillers of Bayport.

I cracked the family story of Bonde Larson, his sister Amanda, another sister Hilda (who was my gg gm), and the guy who followed them from the hometown and married Hilda.

They came for the sawmill jobs.

Black Friday is bullshit

I got two details to support that.

This doorbuster shit is the most cynical shit there is. Now me, I’m not going out 6am for a doorbuster, ever. I won’t be that consumerist person to get the good price. I did read the Menard’s circular though such that I’m getting the Pioneer Press for like a dollar a year. Menard’s was Black Friday pricing these jump boost batteries that you can jump your car with. Yo – these are a must have of the modern age, in this climate. They work. So I was interested in those. Menard’s circular sayeth they were selling a pretty powerful one for $39. I go there on Saturday morning, they are out. Well ya know what Menard’s you aint upselling me such that you stocked 5 at each store, eff you. I’ll buy that from Amazon if that’s how you want to play.

Then Fleet Farm, where you can always get a nice flannel insulated shirt at a super low price as long as you’re an xxl or an xxxl. I mean, wtf? How can never having Ms and Ls be a problem for 30 years? Yo merch buyer: buy more Ms and Ls. I’m having a moment of clarity on that, is the thing…. I’m having this feeling there never are any Ms and Ls, because the shirt lot was sold somewhere else before, where the Ms and Ls were in fact sold…Then Fleet farms buy’s the rest…
