Strib acknowledges the Janus decision is right on the merits…

… though they want to hem and haw just a little.

http://www.startribune.com/organized-labor-must-reform-after-supreme-court-ruling/486883521/

It is right on the merits. There’s not a compelling state interest in abridging first amendment rights to make someone contribute to union dues.

I had a thought yesterday. On the left, they see the ‘zeal’ of the Christian evangelical movement as cringe worthy at best. I dunno, maybe not the best words, but theres a certain revulsion.

The basic obnoxiousness of union laborites is a real thing, and an equal to that revulsion creating evangelical zeal.

Lib SCOTUS freakout…

Its dumb, and that’s a pretty dumb Lambo column over there, even by Lambo standards.

It’s some expression of "by any means necessary / ends justify means", with Lambo suggesting political ratfucking here to prevent a Trump SCOTUS nominee. He backs it up with the narrative of a crime drama, "Billions." Also, a weird lionization of one of the 5 worst Presidents in American history, Lyndon Johnson. When you lionize Johnson for ratfucking, you gotta be lionizing him for the lie of Gulf of Tonkin as well. Lets just say I don’t find that to be a very consistent position for Lambo to take as a … bigly opposer of the war.

Big thing, I think, that forever cements him as an alternative magazine writer of slightly above average wordsmith talent but pedestrian intellect is the constant use of Marxist revolutionary terminology for political events that are well within the 40 yard lines of American politics.

If you’re going to endorse a ratfucking campaign, by the way, I dont know what it is besides appearances that prevents you from endorsing revolution itself.

Chill, libs, you’ll get multiple SCOTUS pics within the next ten years

Eye on Schowalters

My wife is a Schowalter, with a ‘c’. This guy lost his c, but still I would imagine they all go back to the same village in the Black Forest. I think its a Mennonite village actually.

If Schowalter is an Anglicization of "Schonwalder", ie, pretty forest, then we must be talking about the Black Forest.

Blevins shooting, note 2

MPD union A-hole Bob Kroll is quoted as saying the attempted tasing is an erroneous detail, didn’t happen. He’s a dick, but there’s not much reason to not believe him on this boolean, material point there.

The incident makes more sense in some ways if Blevins actually just fled a mere arrest attempt on him, w/o the tasing. Why then this urgent instinct to flee that probably got him killed? He’s a multiple time felon and he had a gun in his pocket. He knew he was very likely going to get prison time, this time.

The only way I’m seeing an alternate, better outcome here is if Blevins himself acts differently. This one’s not an example of PD malfeasance / malevolence… unless the video shows something radical, and I doubt it will.

Philosophy, science, literary beat… w/ racism

Well regarded Princeton physicist didn’t think the Chinese could do math very well https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/14/world/einstein-travel-diaries.html Can barely keep them all out of Harvard now.

Laura Ingalls Wilder was a racist https://www.npr.org/2018/06/25/623184440/little-house-on-the-controversy-laura-ingalls-wilders-name-removed-from-book-awa
I’m actually going to renounce her for a different reason. I have gone all these years thinking the Ingalls were fellow Norwegians… just cuz, they were farmers and ‘Ingalls’ phonetically resembles a Norwegian surname. Wrong-o, I was reading yesterday and was astonished to find they were New England Yankees from way back. DISAPPOINTED!

If its not free will, its a simulation https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2016/06/theres-no-such-thing-as-free-will/480750/

I guess the enlightenment was racist https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/06/taking-the-enlightenment-seriously-requires-talking-about-race.html

Though fair to say maybe you can separate the good parts of the enlightenment https://www.nationalreview.com/magazine/2018/07/09/enlightenment-racist-no-equality-key/

I like this, as a significantly Irish Scandinavian Minnesota https://www.minnpost.com/mnopedia/2018/06/remembering-lost-irish-enclave-st-paul The broader St. Paul enclave are my peeps. My AncestryDNA thing is hitting on a lot of McMahon’s that seem to live in St. Paul that I do not know.

My instincts are contrarian on this as well

Cuz, rules….

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2018/06/24/an-8-year-old-tried-selling-water-for-a-trip-to-disneyland-a-white-woman-threatened-to-call-police/?

A). As a matter of cosmic wisdom, no 8 year olds are legitimately in business hawking anything on street corners. The 8 year old is a front for what is an adult enterprise.

B). ….and you might characterize that enterprise as a gray market hustle of sorts

C). and the gal isn’t wrong being unhappy its being transacted loudly in a residential area, outside her window.

But yeah, calling the police or threatening to … that’s a big escalation, you got to be careful there.

Take a big hack 2018: 4 games in, I have 12 plate appearances..

That’s not enough. This is a function of who I play for. My manager bats everyone, and he bats me 9th or 10th, and we are not hitting as a group (though I am), and the batting order doesn’t turn over.

I don’t like it, but I’ll restrain myself from complaining.

So, cumulative, 4/10, 1 walk, 1 hbp, 1 strikeout.

On that tape there I hit a long foul down left, and that swing looks pretty good, real flat through the zone… I like it.

Boy did that pitching suck yesterday. That guy was throwing about 62 mph, and I am way ahead of an FB like that, cant keep it fair. I did flip a curveball into left for a single

Got hit buy a pitch on a frisbee-ish curveball that was so unintimidating I kinda refused to move for it. Momentarily there was this jawing about me not making an effort to get out of the way, but it hit me in the box… batter owns the box, ump said take first.

Anywho, swinging hard when I can. Seen forty pitches say. 2 called strikes in that in that time, and two swings and misses. Everything else I hit fair, hit foul, or took for a ball.

And now, the Blevins shooting

For all the high tension at this moment, I think this one ultimately has the books closed on it as fairly clear cut ‘justifiable’ under conventional jurisprudence that’s been governing these things forever.

Police respond to multiple 911’s of man shooting gun in neighborhood. Police arrive to interdict, approach couple on a stoop drinking vodka. The man resists a tasing and takes off running. Police confront him in an alley. The visual ID of a gun seems solid, they shoot and kill him.

Ya know, its all very provocative and no one is de-escalating…. I’d like the police to deescalate more, as practice. And as a matter of premise, I think that its very difficult to believe that a suspect can submit / acquiesce to a tasing rather than have his fight or flight instinct take over. But the law doesn’t ponder that. The police’ threshold for reasonable use of deadly force is met with certitude here via presence of the suspect handgun.

This thing was totally ghetto…. man walking neighborhood discharging weapon… drinking vodka on a stoop. I watch my victim blaming, but… this thing was totally ghetto.

Big caution, I would say, is the veracity of those ‘man walking neighborhood discharging weapon’ calls. The news reports aren’t backed with granular, supporting details of that.

Its true, immigration is a growth driver

http://www.startribune.com/immigration-plays-a-key-role-in-economic-growth-kashkari-says/486193101/

Each person represents a certain amount of productivity and consumption and energy, and that is additive to economic growth.
.
Growth is good, makes a lot of things easy. Revenues, budgets, pensions, material well being.

I like growth.

Its not obvious to me Democrats are a growth party, such that it represents consumption, which leads to environmental degradation, global warming. There’s no harmonious middle ground there.
