Leaded gasoline didn’t cause a crime wave

I agree.  The notion it did always struck me as too reflective of cutesy freakonomics counter-intuitive thinking.

If I had to guess…. The old crime spike in the 60s / 70s / 80s / 90s was a function of demographics, ie, the boomers were a big generation….

Simple explanation rather than counter-intuitive.

    you need to correct your headline: the theory suggested that leaded gas (and lead exposure) cause the crime wave, and that the introduction of unleaded gas solved that crime wave. Minor, i know, but….
